Foul balls, senators, and Mark Twain

Everything you will see today is but the prelude to everything you cannot see.

    Advice I've never given before

Stress reveals character.  To learn what's in a tea bag, dump it in hot water.  To see what's inside a bottle, shake it up.  We give what we have, since we obviously can't give what we don't.

    I think I have encephalopathy

Our culture tells you to try harder, get up earlier, stay up later, depend on yourself.  Jesus tells you that if you will submit your problem to him in humble faith, he will reward your commitment with his presence, power and peace.

    Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty

We've spent this week discussing the history of Sunday's Independence Day and its spiritual significance.  Let's close by considering the couple which most symbolizes our nation and her freedoms.

    Zapping mosquitoes and other pyrotechnics

The most visible part of the Fourth of July celebration will be the fireworks.  But why?  Where do fireworks come from?  Why are they so much a part of July 4?

    Hanging up his suspenders

We've explored the creation and signing of the Declaration of Independence; today let's think about the flag which symbolizes the nation birthed by that proclamation.

    Russian spies and hydrangeas

We're preparing this week for Independence Day by learning about our national birthday and its spiritual significance.

    Bulldozers, ducks, and Independence Day

What is Independence Day and what does it say to followers of Jesus?  I did some research over the weekend, and will share what I discovered with you this week.

Minor surgery is what the other guy has

What problem is significant to you this morning, but too small for you to think the rest of us would care?  What joy fits into the same category?  The good news is that there is no such category with God.

    Ten hours at Wimbledon

Years of conditioning and practice have made possible the history-setting Wimbledon event that will continue today.  There is a spiritual lesson here: the best way to prepare for tomorrow is to get close to God today.
